Our Peacebuilders program provides students with a common language and strategies to solve conflicts in a non-violent way. The lessons learned from the Peacebuilders program stay with our students as they move from their school lives into adult lives. The Peacebuilder pledge (recited daily) says it all: "I am a peacebuilder. I pledge to praise people, to give up put-downs, to seek wise people, to notice and speak up about hurts I have caused, to right wrongs, to help others. I will build peace at home, at school, and in my community each day."
Victoria is a Thinking Maps school. We use the 8 maps in all subject areas and all grade levels to provide visual representations of our thinking. Our use of maps deepen understandings of grade level standards as well as connections between ideas and learnings.
Our English Language Learners (ELL) are offered specially designed academic instruction in English (SDAIE) within our classrooms, as well as pull-out language acquisition classes by our English Language Learner Coordinator. EL level 3s receive additional push-in support four days a week from our four credentialed support staff teachers.
Victoria has vigorous reading intervention programs beginning at grade 1 for students not yet reading at grade level. We use the following programs: Grade 1 - Reading Mastery; Grade 2 - Reading Mastery FAST CYCLE; Grade 3 - REACH A; Grades 4 and 5 - REACH B1 and B2. We provide this additional reading support to over 90 students daily.
Special Education & Speech
Our RSP/SAI program offers services to students who need extra help in reading and math. Their ultimate goal is to provide the least restrictive environment for those students with special needs. Our speech pathologist offers services to students who need help in speech.
Our enrichment program provides students with an opportunity to expand their knowledge in music, art, and physical education. Primary students receive 50 minutes of instruction once a week, while intermediate students receive 50 minutes of instruction twice a week. Our enrichment schedules rotate every 3 months so that by the end of the year, all students have been exposed to the three enrichment programs.
Our PTA has provided many opportunities for our school and the community to work together. They have sponsored fundraisers to help support teachers with field trips, provided assemblies to broaden our students exposure to new things, and worked tirelessly to involve parents, teachers, and students in making Victoria a school of which to be proud.
Healthy Start Family Resource Center
Our Healthy Start personnel work with outside resources to meet the needs of individual students and their families through the operation of an information and referral service. They provide a variety of family counseling and health services for students and staff.
Redlands Yucaipa Guidelines Clinic Association (RYGCA)
Redlands Unified has entered a contract with RYGCA to provide counseling services to our schools. We are very fortunate to have these services provided for our students. A signed parent permission form is required for the counselor to see the students.
Victoria partners with the THINK Together organization to provide after school care for students in grades 2 through 5. In addition to working on homework, students participate in enrichment activities and coordinated play. The program operates everyday students are enrolled from dismissal to 6:00pm (including minimum days). Participation in the program is free, but due its popularity, there is often a waiting list.
